Roman citizenship was for centuries a prized legal category due to the set of public and private rights that it granted to its depositary. With the arrival of Christianity, the social, political and legal circumstances gradually changed, modifying it both in form and extension as well as in content until it was almost unrecognizable compared to the citizenship of the classical era.
