The sack of Rome in 410 and its politico-religious implications

The objective of this paper is to show the relevance of the invasion and looting of Rome by Alaric and the Visigoths in 410 – the
true “fall of Rome” for the Romans – and the reaction that the fact
produced in the Roman and Christian intelligentsia, in relation to
the myth of the eternity of Rome.
