Abstract

In Provechoso tratado de cambios y contrataciones de mercaderes
y reprobación de usura, Cristóbal de Villalón wrote, five Centuries
ago, one of the first economic moral treatises in Spanish language.
From his hands three editions it came: in 1541, 1542 and 1546, the
last two corrected and even increased. In the last three years, two
current editions have been published, that have tried to expose the
text updating it for the contemporary reader. Nevertheless, a critical edition is still pending that shows the successive variants and
additions, the sources used by Villalón, and that respects the lexical and stylistic characteristics of the original, facillitating to later
studies, the clarification of the development of his economic moral
thesis, as well as, the development of its own lexicon in Spanish
language.
