Abstract

This work of historical research tries to establish some criteria to interpret one of the most notorious conflicts that arose due to the coexistence between Christianity and Islam throughout the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula. From the reports that were written throughout the 16th Century, for the cause of their canonization, this research paper analyzes some low-medieval legends and modern historiographic interpretations of the martyrdom that occurred during the year 834, of the 200 Benedictines of the monastery of San Pedro de Cardeña, in Burgos
