Attempts to unify the catechism and prayer books in China and adjacent kingdoms in the second third of the XIX century
Main Article Content
The catechism and the prayer book were valid and useful instruments in the first evangelization and in the preservation of the faith of the faithful in the missions of the East, which were generally entrusted to religious orders and missionary Institutes. Their ecclesiastical superiors had instituted their own catechisms, which differed from one vicariate to another. The Congregation of Propaganda Fide in the second third of the s. XIX tried to establish a common catechism consulting the Apostolic Vicars, but given the disparity of opinions did not take any decision. 1874.
