Abstract

The biblical exegesis of St. Thomas Aquinas is often considered outdated due to his understanding of the literal sense, which is not limited to the human author's intention, and his interpretation of specific passages, influenced by his lack of knowledge of the original languages. Despite these differences, some contemporary scholars recommend for his accurate grasp of St. Paul’s intentions, his thoughtful division of the text, and his articulation of the apostle’s theological message. Rather than distorting St. Paul, Aquinas presents him as a teacher of faith. This article examines Aquinas' approach to the Corpus Paulinum, both in terms of exegesis and hermeneutics, in light of contemporary interpretations. It seeks to highlight the points of convergence and divergence, as well as the potential benefits of incorporating Thomistic exegesis into current research on Pauline theology.
