Abstract

The episcopal communion (Episcopalis communio), with Peter and under Peter, is manifested in a peculiar way in the Synod of Bishops, which, instituted by Paul VI on September 15, 1965, constitutes one of the most valuable inheritances of the Second Vatican Council1 . Since then, the Synod, new in its institution but ancient in its inspiration, collaborates effectively with the Roman Pontiff, according to the forms he himself established, on the most important issues, that is, those that require special science and prudence for good. of the entire Church. In such a way, the Synod of Bishops, "which acts in the name of the entire Catholic episcopate, manifests, at the same time, that all the Bishops in hierarchical communion are participants in the concern of the entire Church.
