The philosophy of values in Diego Gracia

Abstract

The aim of this article is to highlight the philosophical importance of values within Diego Gracia’s work. Although it originally came up along the search for the basis of the principles of Bioethics, this  Philosophy of Values is a chapter which has its own autonomous importance and has often been overlooked, despite the fact that it is probably the most relevant  production by its author from a philosophical point of view. It is contextualized and its philosophical development is analysed,  highlighting the fact that its continuous reference to Zubiri’s philosophy is not an annotation or a comment but a continuation and an original creation whose objective is to position himself outside the dichotomy between objectivists Based on resources taken from Zubiri, Gracia produces a “constructivist” doctrine of values and expects to avoid the danger of relativism by rooting value in the formality of reality. The subject has great interest by itself and deserves being taken into consideration, apart from its  performance in the field of Ethics.
