Compliance list
* The submission as not been published in advance nor is it considered by any other review (or it has provided an explanation with respect to the comments in the article).
* The submission archive is in Word format.
* If the article is sent to a section of the journal that is reviewed by parents, the file is completely anonymized, without reference to the author's number, personal data, institutional affiliation or any other information that reveals your identity (as in any reference in the archival properties).
* The text contains the stylistic and bibliographic requirements recorded in the instructions for authors.
* If possible, refer to DOI or URL directions for references.
* The author is recognized with his obligations in the Ethical Code.
Instructions for authors
Presentation of originals
- Salmanticensis accepts the submission of studies, notes and reviews mainly in Spanish, but also in English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. The Editorial Board will acknowledge receipt of the originals received and inform the author whether or not his writing is admitted for review.
2. The articles presented must make some innovative and valuable contribution to knowledge or theological thought. To do this, they will clearly indicate this particular in the summary and in the introduction. They will proceed to show this novelty in dialogue with the most relevant bibliography, through a clear, rigorous and appropriate methodology for the object of study. It is recommended that the article follow the usual form of research work: Presentation of the question and object of study, description of the sources and method, presentation of the topic and conclusions.
3. Salmanticensis uses a peer review system. Articles accepted for examination will be subject to review by two external evaluators, following the double-blind method. The favorable opinion of both reviewers is a necessary condition for publication. In case of divergence, a third final report will be requested. The anonymity of the author and reviewers will be maintained throughout the process. Within a maximum period of four months, the journal will send the authors of the articles the final opinion with the reasons for the decision and, if applicable, pertinent observations made in the review process. If the article is accepted with the condition of making some changes, the author must make them within the period indicated by the Editor, which will depend on the type of changes that must be made. In the publication process, authors will receive proofs of their article for correction.
- The original must be presented completely finished and must adapt to the instructions given by the journal. Shipments will be made through the OJS system, which is accessed on the Salmanticensis web platform: https://revistas.upsa.es/index.php/salmanticensis/. To do this, if it is the first time you are accessing it, you must register in that same place as a new user of the Salmanticensis platform, or identify yourself with your username and password, if you have already registered previously. To complete the submission of a text, you must follow the instructions for online submission of manuscripts in five steps. If an article or note that is a short study is sent, the document with the text must be anonymized, without including personal data, so that it can be sent to the reviewers.
- Sending an article to Salmanticensis implies: a) That the text has not been previously published in paper or digital format. b) That the text has not been nor will it be sent to another journal while it is in the review process by Salmanticensis.
6. The metadata that is uploaded in the submission from must include:
a) Name, surname and institutional affiliation of the author.
b) Email, ORCID (full URL), if available. The email and ORCID will appear, along with the data in section a, on the first page of the article in its printed and digital edition. Remember that in studies and notes that are a brief study, the information in sections a and b should not appear in the document with the text of the article, to ensure the integrity of the evaluation process.
c) Title of the article in English and its version in Spanish.
d) A summary of the article, with a maximum of 150 words, written in Spanish and English, containing the essential aspects and results of the work. It must have its own entity because it is the most accessible part of the article. It should be synthetic and allow readers to know the most important points of the research and reflect why it is important for their field. It is advisable to repeat the words of the title in the summary, so that it appears more easily in search engines.
e) A list of keywords in Spanish and English, no more than eight in number. They must represent the content of the article and be specific to your field of research. As far as possible, these keywords will be avoided from coinciding with those in the title of the article.
- The works must be submitted on computer support in a .docx file.
The length of the articles must conform to the following measurements:
Studies: a maximum of 12,000 words (including notes and list of bibliographic references).
Notes: a maximum of 8,000 words (including notes and list of bibliographical references).
Reviews: a maximum of 2,000 words (no footnotes).
8. Regarding the typographic style, the type and size of the font will be Times New Roman 12 for the text, Times New Roman 11 for indented citations, and Times New Roman 10 for footnotes.

9. If the manuscripts contain texts in Greek or Hebrew, these will be written with the same font using Unicode fonts.
10. Any data or idea taken from another author must be scrupulously treated and cited in an appropriate manner. All direct textual quotes will be enclosed in “English quotation marks” and will be written in round letters. 'Single quotes' can be used when quoting text within another text. If the text of the quote has more than three or four lines, it will be placed in a separate paragraph, indented and in size 11. If a part is omitted in the transcription of a text, it will be indicated with three ellipses between brackets […] . In a footnote you can cite texts in a language other than that of the manuscript you are working on. It must be in the original language of the text and a translation may be offered after the original in parentheses.
Bibliographic references
Chicago style 17th edition will be used: Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed. This system has two forms: notes-bibliography and author-date. References will be placed according to the notes and bibliography form, except for exceptions due to the field of study of the article. The Chicago Citation Guide 17th ed. (Notes and bibliography), which shows how to cite a work for the first time, the following times and in the bibliographical references at the end, can be found here.
Footnotes will follow consecutive numbering. They will be indicated with superscript numbers, preceded, if any, by the period, comma or semicolon. The first time a writing is cited, the complete reference will appear and on subsequent occasions it will appear in abbreviated form, following the Chicago 17th ed. style. If a literal text is cited in a note, the reference will be placed in parentheses after the closing of the quotation marks.
Furthermore, at the end of the studies and notes, all the bibliography cited in the article will be recorded in a separate section (Bibliographical references), arranged alphabetically. As indicated in Chicago style 17th ed., the surname will be placed before the first name. If several works by the same author are cited, the surname and first name will be included each time. All publication information must be included. The DOI (full URL) will be included whenever the reference has it. The list will be composed with a hanging indent, that is, the first line of each reference is not indented, but the following ones are with a tab.
Journals , dictionaries and reference works will be cited with the full name.
The acronyms frequently used in theology, both from the Bible and from ecclesiastical documents and collections, will be transcribed in a rounded manner and without a period. There will be no space after the commas: Mt 9,5; GS 12; PL 25,327; PG 41,254. If there are several discontinuous verses cited, they will be separated from each other by a period; if they are followed, by a dash: Ex 7,4.6.12; Lk 6,2.4; Mark 5,31-34; GS 48-50; PL 54,194,205.
Reviews
For reviews, all the information about the publication will appear according to the form of bibliographic references. After a comma, the number of pages and the ISBN of the book will be indicated. Example:
