Abstract

This research addresses a familiar text: 1 Corinthians 11,27-29, where the apostle Paul speaks of participating in the Lord’s Supper in a dignified manner. It places the Corinthian correspondence in the context of the community that receives the original text. Paul, far from wanting to focus on the world of the introspective, exhorts the incipient Corinthian community of followers of the Lord to live, as an ekklesia, according to the values of the new host, Jesus the Christ, and not according the social expectations of the environment based on honor and privilege. The study of the Greco-Roman banquet, as an institution, reveals the concrete change that the apostle expects from the Corinthian community.
