The effects of Paris condemnation of 1277 on the relationship between the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Theology at the University

This article intends to analyze the consequences that the Paris condemnations of 1277 supposed for the relationship between the faculty of arts and the faculty of sacred theology in the university, especially in perspective of the development of the university towards modernity. The conclusions of the analysis will be presented around four major consequences: the disconnection between the knowledge taught in the university and the teaching and development of Christian dogma, the change produced in the relationship between faith and reason, as a background doctrinal backdrop for the work of theology in the university, the hiatus in the development of thought Thomistic realist and the gradual abandonment of Aristotelian physics and the appearance of new paradigms. The purpose of this article is not to settle any debate, but rather to raise the general issue in the face of a possible deepening of each of the conclusions.
