Abstract
The humanism of Saint Augustine in his Confessions helps us understand the lack of reason of atheistic and agnostic humanisms, which amputate the dimension of openness to the infinite of human existence. In tune with it, this article reflects on the possibility of integrating the valuable contributions of other humanisms and scientific advances, within a philosophical humanism open to the encounter with the Christian God, the true ultimate foundation of
meaning and hope. It is possible to conceive of an inclusive and hopeful humanism at the beginning of the 21st century.
