Abstract

The Aristotelian doctrine of choice plays a key role in its conception of ethical virtue and moral praxis. The object of this article is to analyze the Aristotelian approach
and how it is interpreted by Aspasius in the second century A.D. The fact that the Aspasian
Commentary is the first preserved allows us to trace its evolution, the problems to which
it responds to and the consequences of this process. Its interpretation being faithful to the
Aristotelian conception, it incorporates elements of the Stoic vision of the theory of action,
which has as a consequence a modification of the doctrine of the voluntary nature of acts.
