On some considerations on the war in the de bello of Francisco Suárez

Abstract

The aim of my contribution is to show how Francisco Suárez handles, elaborates and presents in an original way the concept of ‘just war’ in his works. The key text to do this is the De Bello, which represents the XIII disputation of the third part of the De triplici virtute theologica, titled De Charitate, which assumes international relevance when
it is published by the types of Iacobus Cardon in Lyon in 1621, although already some of the topics about the war had been treated by Doctor Eximius in some places of the Tractatus de legibus ac de Deo legislatore.
