Abstract

The Synodicon hispanum is the work contained in the critical edition of the synods of Spain and Portugal held between the Council IV of Lateran (1215) and the Council of Trent (1563). Its first volume was published in 1981, volume 14 is about to be published and, predictably with volume 15, in advanced state of production, the work will be completed. The Synodicon hispanum is part of the initiative of Prof. A. García y García that counted, from the beginning, with the laborious and expert collaboration of Dr. D. Francisco Cantelar, who, in volume VIII, assumed the continuation of the work. This article aims to analyze the origin, the elaboration, the content and the impact of, in the words of Martin Bertram, «monumental Synodicon hispanum», in homage to Dr. Francisco Cantelar who dedicated forty years of his life to his elaboration.
