Abstract
The problem of the misuse of places of worship today affects many regions of the West, linked to a process of advanced secularization. At the same time that the particular Churches become more aware of the historical-artistic and symbolic value of their sacred buildings, they reflect on the use that can be given to the temples that no longer have worship. The article addresses this complex situation by deepening the regulations contained in can. 1222 on the possible serious causes that justify the reduction of a church to a profane, not sordid use, from the current magisterium of Pope Francis and the jurisprudence on this question of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura
