«Acedia» in Thomas Aquinas scholastic hermeneutics of everyday life?

Abstract

Through an examination of the acedia in Summa Theologiae II-II, q. 35 we reveal its condition of possibility based on the immanent doctrine and its implicit ontological assumptions. Such a sighting allows to show its possible underlying presence in the background of Being and Time, as well as to open the field for the problem regarding the method of access, namely if Thomas performed de facto a hermeneutic interpretation of everyday life.
