Abstract

This study is a tribute to the Ruthenian Greek-Catholic Church, which joined Rome in the Užhorod Union in 1646. The Ruthenian Church celebrates the 350th anniversary of this Union, which Pope John Paul II wanted to commemorate with the Letters and Homily addressed to this Church on the occasion of this celebration. This critical study shows the hardship that characterized the process of Union and the ecclesiastical life of this emerging Church and, at the same time, it takes into account the influence it has had on other Byzantine Catholic Churches which also originated in the Užhorod agreement, as a result of the search of the long-awaited unity of the different Churches.
